Thor’s Honor Keepsake Box Thor was the God that all warriors aspired to be. He was noble and honorable. Defender of the Aesir gods and Asgard, he protected everyone from the giants who are the enemies of the Gods. He was courageous, unshakeable, and strong. Thor’s nemesis is Jormungand, the sea serpent who encircles Midgard, the earth as we know and love it. Legend has it, he tries to pull Jormungand out of the ocean while on a fishing trip, and is stopped only when his giant companion cuts the fishing line out of fear. At Ragnarok, Thor and Jormungand will finally face and destroy each other. Mjolnir means lightning. It was believed that Mjolnir would return whenever thrown and was a symbol of protection and an acknowledgement of Norse ancestors. It was fashioned by the dwarves, Sindri and Brokkr, and when it was being created Loki stung the eyelid of the dwarf Brokkr. This resulted in a truly spectacular hammer with only one flaw. The hammer’s handle was too short. Loki then gave the hammer to Thor with other gifts to the Gods in order to get out of trouble with the dwarves. In the end, the dwarves sewed Loki’s mouth shut. The divine plane mirrored Thor’s activities on the human plane, where he was appealed to by those in need of protection, comfort, and petitioned to bless places, things, and events. Our box features Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor, at the center. At the four corners are placed the symbol of the Sun Wheel, which was believed to be Thor’s holy symbol. It measures 71/4" x 7 1/4" x 2 ¾" and is stained golden Oak and sealed for protection.
